FOUNDATION FOR DIGITAL JUSTICE DEMANDS JUSTICE CRACK IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wednesday,May 6, 2026

Lagos, Nigeria.

We stand in solidarity with social media influencer, Justice Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” who is being prosecuted by the Nigerian Government for highlighting the poor welfare conditions of Nigerian soldiers.

At a time when security personnel across the country continue to endure inadequate welfare packages, the digital space must remain an open platform for citizens to express grievances and demand accountability, free from fear of arrest, intimidation, or reprisal. Advocating for improved welfare and working conditions for soldiers is a legitimate exercise of freedom of expression and does not constitute a criminal of-fence.

The continued detention and prosecution of Justice Crack represent a concerning abuse of prosecutorial powers and a violation of the right to freedom of expression.

This pattern of intolerance towards criticism and public accountability is inconsistent with democratic principles and Nigeria’s international human rights obligations.

We, therefore, call on the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to immediately discontinue the charges against Justice Crack and facilitate his unconditional release without further delay.

Our public interest litigation team is working closely with Justice Crack’s defence counsel, civil society partners and other legal stakeholders to ensure his swift release from unlawful detention and the protection of his fundamental rights.

Signed:
Festus Ogun
