FDJ Demands Coroner’s Inquest Into Deaths of Over 33 Young Persons in NSCDC Custody

We have formally demanded an immediate Coroner’s Inquest into the deaths of over 33 young persons who reportedly died in NSCDC custody in Minna, Niger State.

Our demand is contained in a Petition dated September 18, 2026, addressed to the Chief Judge of Niger State.

These deaths cannot be treated as business as usual. An independent, transparent and credible investigation must establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the precise causes of each death.

Every person in detention is entitled to humane treatment and the protection of their lives. The circumstances surrounding this tragedy, therefore, demand urgent and thorough scrutiny.

The Nigerian authorities must ensure justice for the victims and their families, and ensure that those responsible for this dastardly act are brought to book in accordance with the law.
